P. O. Box 46, Kpando VR, Ghana
I warmly welcome you to St. Benedict House also known as House Two. The House is part of the founding Houses of Bishop Herman College in Kpando situated in the Kpando Municipality of the Volta Region of Ghana. It was named after St. Benedict, a Catholic priest who was an Italian monk, abbot and spiritual father of Western monasticism, known for establishing the Rule of Saint Benedict.
The House is located on the ground floor of a two-storey building that also houses House Three on the second floor. The House shares the same immediate vicinity with three other Houses namely Etu-Mante House (House Four), Maurice House (House Five) and St. Victor House (House Six). Behind the House is a beautiful garden named Amakpa Garden and the school’s computer laboratory. About thirty (30) metres away from the House are some of the staff bungalows.
With red as its symbolic colour, St. Benedict House accommodates students from first to third year. The building comprises six (6) main cubicles with a small additional cubicle found at each extreme end of each floor meant to accommodate house prefects. The House currently has a student population of about 500 students.
The House management comprises the Housemaster Mr. Joseph Gbekle and Mr. John Yao Adukpo as well as Ms. Eveline Bayirema Aanomah as assistants. The team of housemasters is assisted by six (6) house prefects.
Eveery year, the House is fully represented in the student leadership.
Spirituality and discipline are the core values of the House. St. Benedict espouses such values and as a result, students of the House are groomed to imbibe them and practically live them in the school and beyond. House Two students abide by rules and regulations of the school and are hardly associated with unacceptable conducts.
Also, as the saying goes, Cleanliness is next to Godliness; we take health related issues seriously. Therefore, neatness is also our hallmark. Laying of bed before leaving the cubicles and tiding up the environment are our daily routines. Although the House shares certain facilities with other Houses, members of the House ensure that the said facilities are always kept clean.
St. Benedict House is also noted for academic excellence. The House management ensures that students work hard and take their academic activities including prep seriously. The combined effort of management and the students have produced remarkable results over the years in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations. Other events that showcase the academic brilliance of the students include Speech and Prize Giving Days and Alumni Homecomings.
Also, the House creates an enabling environment for students to socialise and develop their talents. Management of the House, therefore, puts in place structures to ensure that students participate in every social activity not only at the House level, but also at the school level to guarantee their holistic development.
It is worthy to note that over the years, the House has been blessed with students with varied talents. The sporting prowess of residents of the House is engraved in the annals of the school. Other talents the House nurtures have been publicly displayed and acknowledged during Debate competitions, Maths and Science Quiz competitions, School Choir performances, School Cadet parades, Robotic Club activities and many more.
Yes, St. Benedict House is a home outside home where parents and guardians do not need to worry about the safety, discipline and overall development of their wards. Trust us, we do not disappoint.
Thank you.
