Bishop Herman College has received a boost to its music programme following the donation of a clarinet by Dr. John Kretchy, a proud member of the Bishop Herman Old Boys’ Union (BHOBOU), North America and currently Doctor of Medicine, Fellow of American College of Physicians(MD, FACP).
The donation was made during a brief but meaningful ceremony held yesterday, Tuesday, 28th January 2026, in the Headmaster’s Office of the College. Present were the Headmaster, management members, some members of BHOBU-NA, some students and the Music Master.
In his remarks, Dr. Kretchy expressed his deep appreciation for the College Brass Band, commending them for their excellent and disciplined performance during the commissioning and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly constructed main gate of the College held earlier the same day. He noted that their display reflected dedication, hard work, and quality training.
Dr. Kretchy explained that the clarinet, a key wind musical instrument, will greatly enhance the tonal quality and versatility of the Brass Band, helping to elevate its performances to world-class standards. He emphasized that the donation forms part of his ongoing commitment to giving back to Bishop Herman College, the institution that played a vital role in shaping his academic and personal life.
The instrument was formally received on behalf of the College by the Headmaster, Mr. Francis Kudolo, with support from the Music Master, Mr. Nudanu.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Kudolo expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Kretchy for his continuous support of the College’s music programme. He also paid tribute to Dr. Kretchy’s earlier donation of a trumpet, describing his contributions as impactful and exemplary acts of alumni support.
Adding his voice, the Music Master, Mr. Nudanu, described the donation as both timely and thoughtful, especially at a time when a growing number of students are opting to study music as an academic and co-curricular subject. He assured the donor that the instrument would be put to good use in training students and improving the overall performance of the College Brass Band.
The College expressed its appreciation to Dr. Kretchy for his generosity and commitment to the advancement of Bishop Herman College.
